- Do not have anything to eat or drink (including water) for eight (8) hours prior to your appointment unless told to do so by a member of our office staff or Dr. Tinkler.
- Do not smoke for at least 12 hours prior to surgery. Smoking is bad for your health.
- A responsible adult must accompany the patient to the office, remain in the office during the procedure and drive the patient home..
- Wear loose fitting clothing with short sleeves and low-heeled shoes.
- Remove contact lenses, jewelry, and dentures prior to surgery.
- Do not wear lipstick, excessive makeup, or nail polish on the day of surgery.
- If you have an illness such as a cold, sore throat, stomach or bowel upset the day before surgery, please notify the office since it may be necessary to reschedule your surgery.
- If you take routine oral medications, please check with Dr. Tinkler prior to your surgical date for instructions.
- If you have asthma and use albuterol, please bring your inhaler with you.
- Arrange to have someone with you the remainder of the day of surgery.

After Intravenous Anesthesia or Sedation
- Do not smoke for a minimum of 24 hours. This would be a good time to quit!
- Do not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery that could endanger you or anyone working around you for 24 hours following the anesthesia experience.
- Make arrangements to have someone with you for the rest of the day, on the day of surgery.
- Do not drink any alcoholic beverage for at least 24 hours after anesthesia. Mixing anesthetic drugs and alcohol may prolong the effects of the anesthetic agents.
